Mark WhiteWelcome to the Practice Plus Group Hospital, Plymouth careers page, I’m Mark White Hospital Director.

The primary focus here is to work together with colleagues to deliver leading patient care. The hospital here at Plymouth, has 3 Operating theatres, where we undertake a wide variety of surgical procedures, including Orthopaedics from Hip, Knee and Shoulder replacements, to foot and hand surgery. We also undertake Laposcopic General Surgical procedures. Our Day Surgery theatre is predominantly used for our Cataract surgery, whilst our Endoscopy suite includes state of the art transnasel scopes. We can cater for up to 30 patients in our in-patient ward facilities, whilst our Outpatient department includes treatment and consulting rooms for all specialities, Our Diagnostic department is equipped with two digital x ray machines and a mobile MRI scanner.

Why work here at Plymouth? We pride ourselves in teamwork not only within individual departments but across the whole unit, as a Management team we are passionate about supporting and developing staff, through training and learning new skills. We encourage staff to undertake cross functional working to ensure they are aware of the whole patient pathway. Clinical Governance is a key part of ethos here, with clear governance pathways, structures and reports , regular monthly governance sessions underpin the ongoing learnings. We have staff from a wide diversity of backgrounds and skills to help form our colleague family. We encourage a good work life balance with easy access to world class water sports as well as the wide open spaces of Dartmoor and Bodmin moor , we are also lucky to have some excellent primary and secondary schools within the “Ocean City”.

We were the first independent sector hospital in England to be award an Outstanding rating by the CQC , and this is the minimum standard that we work to each and every day, we are also very proud of how we responded during the covid crises, undertaking 10 new surgical specialities as well as 3 new outpatient clinics for the local trust. We are also innovative , as can be seen by undertaking a joint approach with the local trust to help them clear their Orthopaedic waiting lists.

Why do I enjoy my job, which I do! Firstly I am very proud of all the staff that work here, I am lucky that I see all the thank you letters first-hand which to me proves how much their attention to patient care is second to none, but its not just the patient facing staff, the whole infrastructure of the unit is focused towards the patient and to making that experience as pleasant as possible, whilst ensuring we can still enjoy our roles. I am sure that my colleagues share my passion for making us the best hospital we can be.
